A mail carrier in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, sprang into action to save an adult male Rottweiler trapped in an icy creek. Steve Mull, a U.S. Postal Service employee, noticed the dog struggling in a creek while on his morning route.

The distressed dog's hind legs were pinned under the ice. Mull entered the freezing water, pulling the dog to safety. Mull expressed an understanding of the challenges of the recent inclement weather, stating, "I know what it's like on these cold days. Compassion took over."

Mull delivered the dog to the Highspire Police Department, where the officers provided blankets, water, and treats for the dog, who they named "Bud." To locate Bud's owner, the police shared his information with the public.

The owner was found, but worries about Bud's health and well-being prompted an inquiry into potential animal abuse and neglect. As a result, the Highspire Police Department carried out a search warrant and seized Bud to ensure he received veterinary care.

Mull reflected on his part in Bud's recovery, saying, "My mom always told me to take care of all creatures."
